AI grading for math exams

AI grading for math exams starts with reading the notation. GradeOptics reads handwritten mathematics as notation, shows it typeset beside the scan, and marks the working as well as the final answer against your rubric.

Notation read as notation

Fractions, integrals, matrices, and subscripts are read from the page as mathematics and shown typeset everywhere you check an answer, next to the student's handwriting. You can compare what was read with what was written at a glance.

Rubric items and comments take mathematics too, so an item can say exactly which expression earns the point.

Credit for the method, not only the answer

A math rubric usually gives points for setting up the problem, for the steps, and for the result. GradeOptics applies each item separately and says why, so a student who made one slip late in a correct method keeps the points for the method.

The standard scoring policy accepts an equivalent form of the right answer; strict asks for the exact form, and lenient gives credit for a broadly right answer. You choose it per assignment.

Graphs and diagrams

When an answer is a sketch, such as a graph or a geometric construction, the grader sees the picture of the answer's box alongside any text read from it, so the drawing is judged as drawn.

Consistent marking for the whole class

  • Grade one question for every student in a single list.
  • See similar answers grouped, with the common mistakes side by side.
  • Add a point adjustment with its reason for a case your rubric did not foresee.
  • Change an item and every affected answer is graded again by itself.

You approve every grade

Every mark the AI suggests waits for your approval, and students see only approved grades. The frequently asked questions cover access, privacy, and the question types that work.
